Buying A Christmas Gift For A Man
I am sick of the marketing of Christmas, and I bet that you are as well by now. Oh, I know, people have talked to death about commercialism and consumerism and such, but these are not the things that anger me the very most. No, not at all. What angers me most is the way that our rigid roles are reinforced by the ways that people market their Christmas gift ideas.
This, they will say, is the right Christmas gift for a man, that the right Christmas gift for a woman, and the other, the perfect Christmas gift for a teenager – as if the whole personality of someone could come down simply to their gender and age. Let me say this plainly now, and not be misunderstood: there is no ideal Christmas gift for a male. They may tell you that a Christmas gift for a man is a pocket knife, or a new tie, or a war book, but all of that is hogwash.
The only perfect Christmas gift for a man is the gift that that man wants, and men are as different from each other as they are from women or teenagers.
Of course, I know that the companies market Christmas gifts for a man partly as a way to make things easy for the consumer. They want to put things that men usually want all together, so that when someone does go out and look for a Christmas gift for a man, they will see them all in one section. But beyond that, I think that the system of having men’s Christmas gifts and women’s Christmas gifts has a more sinister function. I think that they do it all to cement their hold over us. If a Christmas gift for a man is a pocket knife or a nice watch, then every year you have to buy all of the men in your life one of these things. And so on.
It is really every bit as sinister as all that, and I am not joking. There are people who spend years thinking about how to best market to a group of people, and this is how they think. They will try to make everyone buy the most expensive Christmas gift for a man that they can, and that way they will make more money. And money is, of course, what the holiday is all about for these companies.
Personally, I’d be happy with electronic gadgets, but that’s just me!

When it comes to shoes, I definitely value comfort above everything else. I enjoy being able to walk around all day without noticing what I’m wearing on my feet because that most likely means that my shoes are comfortable and not bothering me. Zen Alarm Clocks For Yoga Buffs
As a meditator, I have always faced a problem. It is important to make sure that my meditations can get as deep as possible, but I also do have plenty of other obligations on a day to day basis. If I slip too deeply in to bliss while chasing nirvana, I might not get out in time to go to work or to pick up the kids from school, or whatever else there is on my schedule that day. That is why I wanted to get a zen alarm clock to really help me out with my mediation. And I have to say that my digital zen alarm clock has done just that.
I know that the name zen alarm clock sounds kind of stupid, and just like another crass marketing gimic, and in a sense that is just what it is. But still, digital zen alarm clocks really provide an important function to anyone who has a day to day mediation practice that they like to keep up, such as me. If you just use a normal alarm clock radio to wake you out of meditation, it will not wake you gently. While a zen alarm clock uses a soothing gong sound to gently bring you back up to the day to day reality of your life, an alarm clock radio will either wake you with a harsh beep or buzz, or else with the blare of music from whatever station that you have it set to. This will undo a good bit of the benefit of meditation, because you will instantly tense up when you suddenly hear that harsh sound coming out through the speakers at the end of your meditation.
Best of all, a zen alarm clock can be used in place of a regular alarm clock am fm radio to get you up in the morning. It has a digitized gong sound, and can be set in many different ways, either to awaken you with a series of loud chimes. Or to gradually increase in volume until it has reached its full capacity. No matter how you set your zen alarm clock, it will help you wake up gently and feel all nice and refreshed in the morning, which is sure a whole lot better than being suddenly jarred out of bed with no warning at all! Despite the cheesy factor, a Zen alarm clock is really useful.
MacGyver DVDs – Remember The Good Old Days?
Who’s got some duct tape and a Swiss Army knife? Yeah, that was the thing back in the day. Oh, and when I say “the day,” I’m referring to the 80s. Ah yes, the childhood years; when school was simple and MacGyver ruled the television. If you were around back then, you surely watched it at least a few times. I must admit that it was my favorite show. Heck, why wouldn’t it be? The guy could make anything out of nothing. We all should strive to be so innovative and resourceful. The cool thing now a day is that you can still enjoy all that MacGyver excitement when you purchase MacGyver on DVD. Yeah, that’s right. You can buy the series and view it as much as your little heart desires.
A few weeks ago I spotted MacGyver on DVD in Best Buy. Typically I don’t purchase these old TV series’, but I had to jump on the MacGyver on DVD. He was literally my childhood hero. I loved the way he resolved everything with his brain, as opposed to brawn. It was very encouraging. With a little help from his Swiss Army knife and some duct tape, he was basically golden. The guy could make a grenade out of a chewing gum wrapper, or an airplane out of an old kite. The greatest thing about MacGyver on DVD is that now all of the new generations to come can still enjoy the magic of this spectacular TV series. Get your kids watching MacGyver on DVD, and just maybe they’ll learn something. In addition to MacGyver on DVD, you can also find a number of other TV series’ on DVD. That is pretty much the fad right now. All of the older series’ are being brought back on DVD for all to enjoy on countless occasions. Anything from “Popular,” to “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” to “Angel” can be found on DVD.
