Doing Your Christmas Shopping The Day After Thanksgiving

The day after Thanksgiving is commonly referred to as “Black Friday”. This day is traditionally one of the busiest shopping days of the years and for many signifies the first day of Christmas shopping. While the term black Friday was originally used to represent the day in which retailers returned to profitability many who work in the retail industry use this term as a way to describe the crowds and chaos which accompany Christmas shopping on the day after Thanksgiving. Likewise consumers expect significant sales to go along with the large crowds which flock to stores.

There is also “Cyber Monday” which is the Monday after Thanksgiving which is said to be the best shopping day for online retailers. Many people who return to work on Monday get on their computers and start their shopping online.

For many shopping on the day after Thanksgiving is a tradition which wouldn’t be missed for the world. These individuals look forward to the sales and starting their shopping as a way to get into the Christmas spirit. These individuals can be counted on to arrive before the malls and shopping centers even open to get a great parking spot, to make multiple trips to their cars to drop off packages before returning to the shopping area to make more purchases and to almost literally shop until they drop. These are the individuals retailers count on each year to boost their quarterly earnings and to help them report profitability for the year.

Those who enjoy Christmas shopping on the day after Thanksgiving feel this way for a number of different reasons. Some enjoy shopping on this day for the tremendous sales which are inevitable. Still others enjoy shopping on this day because they like to take things one season as a time and figure now that Thanksgiving is over; it is time to start focusing on Christmas. There are even others who like shopping on this day for the excellent people watching opportunity the day presents. Whether or not they get any actual shopping done these individuals flock to shopping malls on the day after Thanksgiving because they know there will be tons of other shoppers to observe. Finally there are those who start their Christmas shopping on the day after Thanksgiving because of a sense of tradition. It is these individuals who have simply always started their Christmas shopping on this day out of habit. Their parents probably started Christmas shopping the day after Thanksgiving and they simply learned this is the day to start Christmas shopping. They will also likely pass on the habit to their own children.

Conversely there are other shoppers who absolutely refuse to step foot inside a mall or shopping center on the day after Thanksgiving. For these shoppers trying to get any shopping done on this day is near impossible. They are willing to sacrifice the opportunity to buy some items as gifts at excellent sale prices just to avoid the throng of shoppers who swarm the stores on this one particular day. However, it is important to not that just because these shoppers avoid shopping areas on the day after Thanksgiving does not mean they don’t enjoy great sale prices on the Christmas gifts they purchase. These shoppers may take advantage of sales throughout the year to accomplish their Christmas shopping within their set budget.

There are still others who typically do not do any shopping on the day after Thanksgiving but these individuals do not necessarily avoid the malls and shopping areas on this day either. There are many people who enjoy taking a trip to the local mall or shopping center on the day after Thanksgiving just to enjoy the hustle and bustle the day presents. For these people just walking around and experiencing the excitement around them helps to put them into the holiday spirit.

Whether you are an early Christmas shopper, a last minute Christmas shopper or just a people watcher, you likely understand it is appropriate to expect large crowds in malls and shopping centers on the day after Thanksgiving. It is up to you to decide whether or not you choose to join the shoppers on this hectic day.

Shopping From The Christmas Catalog

The other day I received a great surprise in the mail box. In among the bills was a Christmas catalog. Receiving this brought me back to memories of my childhood. My sisters and I would spend hours looking through the Sears Christmas catalog picking out the gifts we hoped Santa Claus would bring. Our mom would have us mark the pages that had the toys on that we were the most interested in. She then had us put the Christmas catalog under the tree on Christmas Eve with a glass of milk and a plate of cookies for Santa Claus. On Christmas morning there would be a number of toys that we had marked in the catalog. Mom told us this saved Santa Claus time so that he did not have to read so many wish letters from children.

The Christmas catalog that arrived the other day was filled with great gift ideas. Now that you can place orders on the internet the use of Christmas catalogs is even more convenient. The company that sent this catalog has a site where you can check to see if the items that you want to order are in stock. The weight of the items is tallied along with the price so the total of the shipment is figured out for you as well as the estimated date of arrival. This company has the added feature of a tracking number so that you can check on the progress of the shipment.

I found several gift ideas in the Christmas catalog for my husband’s staff members. He likes to give them something each year, yet the agency has a policy regarding the amount that can be spent. The Christmas catalog had several items that fit within the price range, and he did not have to go shopping for them. My husband is willing to go shopping for short periods of time. By using the Christmas catalog to order the presents for his staff he is more willing to spend time shopping for the others on our gift list.

As I was going through the Christmas catalog I found several items for others on our list. My husband thought we should order these things as well, however I like shopping. We decided that we would place the order and still spend a day shopping for a gift for our home. We have been buying a gift for the house each year since we have been married. During the Christmas season so many things are on sale so this is a good time to purchase items for the home.

Ideas For A Cheap Christmas Gift

If your Christmas gift budget is anything like mine, you’re thinking about who you can take off of your list without offending anyone. But, after doing some brainstorming and thinking, I found numerous ways to not remove anyone’s name and find a cheap Christmas gift that would be suitable and unique to everyone. There are lots of cheap Christmas gift ideas that are to be found, though some of them might require a bit of time and energy. If you’re willing to put some holiday spirit into those cheap Christmas gift ideas, then you may be receiving lots of hugs and kisses this Christmas.

My favorite of all of the cheap Christmas gift ideas was to make things for the intended recipients. Whether it be some type of food or an item for the house, homemade gifts are not only very appreciated but make a wonderful cheap Christmas gift that contains a great amount of love. If the recipient is a big fan of fudge, cookies or even cake – run with that idea. Fudge and candy can be made with little expense and lots of bowl licking for your family members. Once you have fudge or candy made, you can wrap it in festive cellophane or boxes tied with ribbon. Yummy treats are a wonderful way to win some points in gift giving. Making a cake is a great cheap Christmas gift that can be just as delightful as candy or fudge. Find out your recipient’s favorite flavor and make that. Add some creative decorating flair to it and it will be received with smiles.

If you’re not much for spending time in the kitchen, there are many other cheap Christmas gift ideas that don’t involve cooking. If you visit a craft store, such as A.C. Moore, there are tons of ideas for making a cheap Christmas gift. You can make beautiful candles at a low cost, small wreathes, candle holders, pot holders, and knit lots of different items. Knitting something heartfelt for someone is a wonderful way to show your creativity and love for others and is a cheap Christmas gift that won’t break your wallet. I knitted a few scarves for family members and they all loved them tremendously. Knitting all of them simply cost me the price of the yarns and I made 3 scarves for less than $10.00. I managed to cross 3 names off of my list at for a low cost.

Another cheap Christmas gift idea is to create a coupon book for someone. You can include coupons for babysitting, massages, breakfast in bed, car washes, dish duty, almost anything that the recipient may appreciate. This idea may work best for people who live in the same household and would appreciate you helping with chores or some extra attention.

Using your imagination and putting some extra love into finding a cheap Christmas gift can leave the recipients incredibly pleased and your wallet a bit fuller.
